Using Plugins and Other Data

This page provides step by step guidance for using GeoPlatform plugins, third party plugins and other tools to embed your registered assets (datasets, services, layers, maps, etc…) into your community space.

Using GeoPlatform Plugins

Use the GeoPlatform plugins in your community space to connect to the GeoPlatform registry to show your community assets and resources.

GeoPlatform Maps Plugin – The GeoPlatform Maps plugin is used to create and manage customized and reusable instances of Open Map objects for embedding as interactive web map components within your pages and posts. With this plugin you have the ability to easily compile and manage a local collection of interactive maps.

    Steps:

    1. Log in to your community space.
    2. If the plugin is not already installed, download and activate the GeoPlatform Maps plugin.
    3. Go to the settings section in the Admin Dashboard.
    4. In settings, select GeoPlatform Maps.
    5. In a separate tab, go to the GeoPlatform Homepage.
    6. Open the “More” menu at the top and select “Map Manager”.
    7. Using the GeoPlatform Map Manager find the map that you would like to add to your community page.
    8. Open the map.
    9. In the URL, copy the map ID. This is the string of 32 numbers and letters at the end. (Example: If the map URL is https://www.geoplatform.gov/resources/maps/0070213ab25c11acb20facbe0b1ae265/, then the Map ID is 0070213ab25c11acb20facbe0b1ae265).
    10. Return to the community site.
    11. On the GeoPlatform Maps page in the settings section, paste the map ID into the map ID box.
    12. Optional: Add the height and width that you would like to use. If none are added, then it will default to 400h X 600w.
    13. Click “Add Map”
    14. The map should be added to end of the listed maps.
    15. Find your newly added map in the list and copy the shortcode.
    16. Then go to a new or existing page where you would like to add the map.
    17. Using the Text editor section, paste the shortcode into the page.
    18. Click “Preview”.
    19. If it looks right, go back to the editing page and click “Publish” to save changes.

GeoPlatform Search Plugin – The GeoPlatform Search plugin is used to browse, search, and access the portfolio of GeoPlatform assets (Datasets, Services, Layers, Maps, Galleries, Communities) by users throughout the GeoPlatform ecosystem.

    Steps:

    1. Log in to your community space.
    2. If the plugin is not already installed, download and activate the GeoPlatform Search plugin.
    3. Once the GeoPlatform Search plugin is activated then a search page is automatically created. (This page can be found in the Pages section of the admin dashboard.
      • **Do not add, edit, or delete content from the search page- the page is automatically generated by the plugin**
    4. To add a search bar into your posts, pages, and menus
    5. Go to the settings section in the Admin Dashboard.
    6. In settings, select GeoPlatform Search.
    7. Copy the Shortcode
    8. Go to the page or post
    9. Click edit page/post
    10. Insert Shortcode into the text editor
    11. Click update and view page

GeoPlatform Asset Carousel – The GeoPlatform Asset Carousel plugin is used to create a filtered searches of the GeoPlatform portfolio in your community page.

    Steps:

    1. Log in to your community space.
    2. If the plugin is not already installed, download and activate the GeoPlatform Asset Carousel plugin.
    3. Go to the settings section in the Admin Dashboard.
    4. In settings, select GeoPlatform Asset Carousel.
    5. Add the title of the carousel
    6. Under title, check the options you want to be shown
    7. Choose your sorting format for results
    8. Choose your search bar format * Standard is the most commonly used format *
    9. Check the display criteria you want shown on your carousel, this may require a 32 digit community ID. (ie=ff53207cc8d08e02033c7286004b5a22)
    10. Choose the items for your carousel output, conservative use of items is suggested
    11. Click “add carousel”
    12. Copy Shortcode generated from the carousel
    13. Go to the page or post you want to display the information
    14. Click edit page/post
    15. Paste Shortcode into the text editor
    16. Click update and view page

GeoPlatform Resource Registration Plugin – The GeoPlatform Resource Registration plugin is used to register your assets directly with the GeoPlatform portfolio without leaving your community.

**The plugin is installed and activated standard with each new community, this plugin automatically generates the registration page- do not add, edit, or delete any content on this page.**

Embedding an iframe Code – Embed an external dashboard using an iframe code

Steps:

  1. Log in to your community space.
  2. In another tab, access the dashboard page to embed
  3. Copy the url of the dashboard page
  4. Navigate to the community webpage the dashboard will be on
  5. In the text editor, add the following iframe code
    •  <iframe style=”width: 500px; height: 100%; min-height: 500px; overflow: auto; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: auto;” src=”ENTER YOUR DASHBOARD URL HERE” frameborder=”0″ seamless=””>Please verify browser iframe support. </iframe> 
    • In the above code, replace your copied url from the dashboard into the space “ENTER YOUR DASHBOARD URL HERE”
  6. Update page


Using Download Manager
  1. Login to your community site (Must have editor or author access to use this feature)
  2. Click your site name to access the dashboard
  3. Click Download Manager
  4. Click Add Package
    • Add the name, description, relevant documents or change the details to the package/folder.
    • Documents uploaded directly to Download Manager will be private IF you select “private” under page settings, restrict the page to specific user groups and/or set a password required to open the documents.
    • These documents will not show up on your WordPress Media Library.
  5. Once finished adding or editing the package/folder, Click Publish or Update.
